Collection: POLISH NATIONAL RADIO ORCHESTRA - THE MUSICAL HERITAGE RECORDINGS
The Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR), based in Katowice, stands as one of Poland's premier orchestras and a significant cultural ambassador on the international stage. Founded originally in Warsaw in 1935 by Grzegorz Fitelberg, the orchestra was silenced by World War II but re-established by Fitelberg in Katowice in 1945, quickly becoming central to Poland's post-war musical landscape.
As an institution of Polish Radio, NOSPR has a rich history of broadcasting and recording, making classical music accessible across the nation. It is particularly renowned for its commitment to Polish music, having premiered numerous works by leading Polish composers of the 20th and 21st centuries, including Witold Lutosławski, Krzysztof Penderecki, and Henryk Mikołaj Górecki. While championing native composers, the orchestra also maintains a vast repertoire spanning core symphonic works from the Baroque to contemporary periods.
NOSPR has collaborated with many of the world's most distinguished conductors and soloists. It tours extensively, performing in major concert halls and festivals globally, consistently receiving critical acclaim for its technical brilliance and passionate interpretations. Since 2014, the orchestra has resided in a spectacular, state-of-the-art concert hall in Katowice, designed by Tomasz Konior, which boasts world-class acoustics and has further cemented NOSPR's status as a leading European ensemble and a cornerstone of Polish musical life.
