Loren Schoenberg is a Grammy Award-winning American jazz musician, conductor, historian, educator, and broadcaster, renowned for his deep commitment to the preservation and performance of classic jazz. Primarily known as a tenor saxophonist and bandleader, Schoenberg possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of jazz history, particularly the swing era.


His career gained significant traction through his association with Benny Goodman, whom he served as assistant and archivist during the legendary clarinetist's later years. This experience provided invaluable insight into the music and the era. Schoenberg went on to lead his own acclaimed big bands, including the Loren Schoenberg Jazz Orchestra, dedicated to performing both classic repertoire and new works within the tradition.
Beyond performance, Schoenberg is a pivotal figure in jazz education and preservation. He was the founding director and is currently Senior Scholar of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem, playing a crucial role in its mission to celebrate and teach jazz history. He is also a long-serving faculty member at The Juilliard School.


As a writer and historian, Schoenberg won a Grammy Award for Best Album Notes for a Louis Armstrong and Bing Crosby collection. He has authored books and countless articles, sharing his extensive knowledge and passion.
