Sonata number 57 in F seems to be in part a later version of Sonata number 19. The F major sonata has a new first movement which Christa Landon points out is stylistically somewhat at odds with the rest of the work...Sonata number 58 in C dates from 1789, a season nearing the end of Haydn's association of nearly thirty years with the Esterházy family. William S. Newman, in his The Sonata in the Classic Era, tells us that this work was "all that came out of C. G. Breitkopf's original request for six new sonatas from Haydn." It was eventually published as one number in a "Musicalishes Pot-Pourri."...For the circumstances regarding the dedications of Sonata number 59 in E flat the reader is referred to the overall notes for this recorded edition of Haydn's keyboard works. In the opening Allegro, the five-note motif is shared by both the first and second themes.
