Anton Nel is an internationally renowned classical pianist, celebrated for his technical brilliance, profound musicality, and insightful interpretations. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Nel displayed exceptional talent early on, completing his initial studies at the University of the Witwatersrand. He later moved to the United States, furthering his education at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.


Nel's career gained significant international momentum after winning the prestigious Naumburg International Piano Competition in 1987. This pivotal achievement launched a distinguished performing career that has seen him appear as a soloist with major orchestras across North America, Europe, and Asia, including the Cleveland, Chicago, San Francisco, London Philharmonic, and BBC Symphony Orchestras, among many others. He is equally acclaimed as a recitalist and chamber musician, frequently collaborating with esteemed artists and ensembles, and appearing regularly at prominent festivals such as Aspen, Ravinia, and La Jolla SummerFest.


Beyond his performance schedule, Anton Nel is a highly respected and dedicated pedagogue. Since 2000, he has held the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Endowed Chair in Piano and served as Division Head of Keyboard Studies at the University of Texas at Austin's Butler School of Music. Prior to this, he taught at the Eastman School of Music. He is in high demand for masterclasses worldwide.
