Having proven their collective mettle (many times over since the group was formed in 1965) with the music of Carter, Babbitt, and others, the Composers String Quartet decided to return to the "roots" of modern music, to four of the "Grand Old Men" of the 20th century: Samuel Barber, Aaron Copland, Henry Cowell, and Charles Ives. Each composer, though well known and often performed, is still capable of providing surprise and delight.
