An entire generation had their first exposure to Johnnie on a stream of groundbreaking records that included Maybelline, Oh Carol, School Days, Johnnie B. Goode, Rock & Roll Music -- records mixed to accentuate the guitarist/singer who at the time was a member of Johnnie's band. But even mixed back and ambient, Johnnie provided a muscular intensity, a rolling, flowing, barrelhouse feel that was half of what drove the world crazy about rock and roll. --John Sebastian
